There have been a lot of studies done in the last several years that have given rise to a fear of concussions. The recovery time after a concussion has been shown to be critical to prevent any further problems. Concussions can, in some cases, be difficult to diagnose. For this reason there are baseline tests that can be done that allow a medical professional to have a record on file to compare test results to. As a player comes in with a possible concussion, the medical professional is able to compare the results to the baseline provided before the injury. While such a test can be done by any Dr of the player/families choosing, Tri City Physical Therapy offers these tests for free to FHS athletes! Please be sure to call whatever medical professional you choose and set up an appointment to get this done for the season!
As mentioned on our facebook page, we have scheduled the Summer Camp for 2017. It will be held from May 30th to June 2nd. It will run from 5pm to 7pm each of those days. Prices and Signup can be found HERE.
Players should come prepared to play soccer. This means water bottle, cleats, and shin-guards. Other items to consider would be sun screen and appropriate dress.
We lost a coach this year and gained two. This will shake things up this year and I am excited to see how and what changes. Everyone get ready! Gonna be a great season building on the foundation of previous years!
For those of you who wish to have your calendar include the Fruitland Boys Soccer Calendar, I have written this blog post to help. For this process you only need a google account and the username and password for that account. For those of you wanting it on the phone, you may (if not already set up) need to set up your google calendar on your phone after this process is over. Here we go.
Click on the top menu called "SCHEDULE" and view the calendar as shown below.
Once you see the view above you may notice on the bottom right corner of the calendar is a "Google Calendar" icon with a plus sign next to it. Click it. (Its emphasized below)
When you click on the link (unless you had signed in recently) it will take you to a log in where you must provide your google username and password. Once logged in, It will prompt you as seen below.
Click "Yes, add this calendar" and viola! Objective complete! Due to the various types of mobile devices on the market, I will leave it up to you to get the calendar on your mobile device for easier access. I post to this calendar as often as possible for upcoming events.
We held our first summer camp and wrapped it up for this year today. What a great program that was! We had between 15-20 high school kids there each day and about 30 boys and girls! We learned some things and really had fun and we hope the kids did as well. Next camp will be held in the summer of 2017. About the same time so stay tuned!
The term "curve ball" obviously comes from baseball but it represents something that is designed to "fake-out" the competition or make the competition believe that what is coming is going to be easy and predictable.
This season, while I hope to announce and avoid one curve ball, I anticipate there being two that cause problems this year. The first is that in the past several years (even back when I played) I have witnessed player after player let their teammates down because they show up out of shape, out of touch, and out of sync. I have watched as we strive to win games and practice technique all the while turning the "blind eye" to one of the root problems - players being out of shape. It's time we take the team to another level and increase our fitness.
Try-outs is the other curve ball. We will be doing try-outs this year in attempt to heighten the competition (partially due to the above mentioned problem). The try-outs have been provided on the Facebook page for any to see. The players scores will be given to the players and much (if not all) of the decision making regarding the team the player plays on will be determined by the try-outs.
The Fruitland High School soccer coaches believe in these players. We believe that they have a great potential. We believe that doing hard things enables players to have the mental toughness and fortitude that they need for the life ahead of them. That fortress must be built to realize and to prepare to realize some of their individual potential. We want these players to be successful on the soccer field because they can. Because being successful on the soccer field will be a shadow of the greatness these young men need to realize they have. A greatness that is born and bred from doing hard things.
We have a summer camp coming up!
We now have the "rules" in Spanish thanks to some Spanish speaking family and google translator!
